Our teacher taught us how to say "one-night stand" in French. Seriously. For those who aspire to live in a francophone country, it's either un relation d'un soir or un relation sans lendemain. Literally translated into "one-night relationship" and "relationship without tomorrow," respectively.
We're also going over how to properly host and be hosted at a party, and I am all for these French rules. I mean, bringing gifts is expected in the Willard family. One of my favorite Christmas parties involved everyone bringing food pantry donations, a nice twist on that rule. We even got a thank-you letter from the Plainville Food Pantry. According to French rules, though, bringing any kind of gift seems risky. Bringing food could mean a surplus of food. In America, I guess, this is never an issue because we always want more food, but in France, if you bring macaroons and the host is already serving macaroons... Well... I guess it can make for some awkward company.
Also, guests are to be seated where the host chooses. Now, I would've loved this in middle school, since my goal was always to sit next to my crush. (Sorry, Nick.) But there are rules with this too. Couples should be seated apart, and people who don't know each other should be sitting together to promote bonding between new people. But if a couple is newly married--less than a year--they can sit together. Why? I guess we're still afraid of them straying during such a short time. Because one year isn't a long time...
Oh, I forgot to share my other selfie...
I could see the other Metro-goers judging me, but they do not know that good ole Ben and are dear friends. And by "dear friends," I mean that I was part of a group that harassed him for a picture while he was filming his movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
I did something else today, but I'm saving it for another post. Because it doesn't seem appropriate to show pictures of the Notre Dame as part of a post in which the phrase un relation sans lendemain is used...
